Accelerated Successor Appointment for Female Professors

What is the purpose of this funded initiative? The University of Bonn seeks to achieve a balanced gender ratio at all levels of scientific research. The goal of the Recruiting STEP is to recruit outstanding female researchers as early as possible for professorships at the University of Bonn, and in this way to increase the quota of female professors. In situations where quick action is needed to reach especially outstanding female researchers for the University of Bonn — even where the corresponding vacancy does not yet exist — then an accelerated successor appointment can be supported.

What does the funding include?

The funding covers the accelerated successor appointment for a professorship by a female academic. The hiring requirements are laid out in §36 of the NRW Higher Education Act. The length of the funding will be set by prior arrangement on a case-by-case basis.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applications can be submitted by all faculties and central research institutes at the University of Bonn. The application to the Rectorate must be made by the dean of the respective faculty or by the managing director of the central research institute.

What documents are required for funding of an accelerated succession appointment?

  • Brief supporting letter with the following information:
    • Importance of the appointment for strengthening gender equality in the department
    • Declaration of acceptance with reference to a specific position after the end of the transitional financing
    • Intended resource allocation offer
    • Presentation of the procedure
  • Tabular curriculum vitae, incl. research orientation and index of publications, for the female professor to be appointed

What are the selection criteria for appointment?

  • Importance of the appointment for strengthening gender equality in the department
  • Integration into the research and instructional strategy of the University of Bonn
  • Initiation or execution of high-quality, topical research projects (such as in connection with the TRAs)
  • Convincing planning for establishment of joint third-party funded projects

What is the deadline for applying?

Proposals can be submitted throughout the year.
